Dreams of a fairytale end to Dale Park's season were crushed by a ruthless Bottesford at a sunny Birch Park on Sunday afternoon. Park started the better and pressed Bottesford high up the pitch in the opening minutes and Kris Collins and Jack Rhodes forced decent saves out of the keeper. At the back Jack Lacey-Hatton and Andy Dawson looked strong but Ash Finney was still forced to make a good save from Callum Pell as Bottesford began to put the pressure on. Right on half time came the killer opening goal when Kyle Jones raced away from the Dale Park defence as appeals for offside never came to anything. Dawson and Lacey-Hatton nearly got back but Jones kept his cool and slot home the opener. After the half time break we looked a broken team Bottesford nearly made it two to nil but Lacey-Hatton cleared a cross when it was close to Finney's goal, but moments later Pell did make it two after bundling the ball in from close range. Moments later Bottesford had three nil after scoring from a clear run on goal. Kris Collins gave us a small consolation after chipping the keeper. Bottesford added a fourth late on to end this generation of Dale Park as a team, and secure a place in the final of the Div Cup.
We will keep you posted on Dads V Lads and Presentation Night
However that is it for this season , cheers lads.

App Frod Juniors 3-4 Dale Park
Dale Park kept alive hopes of winning a trophy this season after a tight win at a side bottom of a league. Despite a cagey few opening minutes, Park eventually got off the mark. Lewis Clark's expert free-kick found Jack Lacey-Hatton and the steer post to steer in the opener beyond the keeper. However Frod were a tough side to put away and scored from a controversially given free-kick, which was fired beyond Finney. Our response was brilliant, Jack Rhodes cross finding Clark at the back post to make it 2-1. The second half was a lot more of a battle after Rhodes was forced off with an ankle injury. Joe Siddons levelled for Juniors with an absolute screamer but Nick Wingate put us back in front after lobbing the keeper from Harvey's long ball. His corner then set up Johnstone to secure the win with only 15 minutes to play. However we were given a nervy last few minutes after Merrill gave away a penalty Lingard stepping up to make it 4-3. We hung on and made it to the semi-final with Bottesford awaiting.

Brigg Town 4-5 Dale Park
Not many games will be as memorable as this nine goal classic, in the history of Dale Park. We somehow won a crazy, but amazing, game after Ryan Inghams late scrambled winner. For the first ten minutes Park were still playing as they were last week, with a lack of commitment or quality and it was only after Brigg scored the first goal that we really got going. The opening goal was one of the days many controversial points after Collins who was wearing a protective knee brace was clattered over in midfield many players expected a free kick to be awarded. However Brigg played on and trickled a shot past Finney and in off the post. We then started the comeback by doing what we did so well all day: being a threat from set pieces. Lewis Clark's excellent free kick was nodded in by strike partner Jack Rhodes. The game then turned a little heated with Park outplaying Brigg all over the field but the referee slowing the game down, Andy Dawson knocked the ball away before a Brigg free kick although the ball was still near to where it should of been, the referee took a hard line and booked Dawson for unsporting behaviour. Dawson though knew himself how to get his own back scoring one of the goals of the season, when his volley flew above the keeper and into the roof of the net, from about 30 yards. Now confidence was flowing and birthday boy Lewis Clark was brought down by the Brigg keeper, and a penalty was awarded much to the dismay of Brigg. Despite hitting a decent penalty Clark could not find the net and the score remained 2-1. If they thought that penalty was harsh Brigg were about to get lucky themselves when a cross-shot bounced off the top of Lacey-Hattons arm and the referee again took a strong and harsh line, awarding the hosts a penalty. They scored and the teams went in level at the break. After the break Brigg got into the lead after stealing the ball on the halfway line and running on before firing the ball past Finney. The lead was doubled when after a free kick found its way to the back post and with no offside given Brigg rammed the ball into the net. Cue an inspirational fightback started by Kris Collins scoring a fantastic goal which flew into the top corner. Playing with confidence we nearly equalized after a goalmouth scramble with Ingham eventually shooting wide. Our fourth goal came after a flowing team move the ball was released to Clark inside the box who passed it beyond the keeper leaving Matty Harvey to fire the ball past the on-line defender to make it 4-4. Then came a huge turning point with Brigg pushing on the counter attack Harvey cleared but the ball hit Lacey Hatton on the back of the shoulder. After a pause the referee awarded a almost farcical penalty. Ash Finney proved why he is one of the best keepers in the league by diving to his right to keep Park in the game. minutes later Brigg went through but hit the post before Dawson blocked the re-bound. With time running out Park surged forward in desperate search of a winner and it came from one of Nick Wingates trademark throw-ins. His long throw was flicked on by Lacey-Hatton to Ingham who with his back to goal amazingly flicked the ball back over the keeper and just over the line. The linesman awarded the goal and somehow we were back in front. Park defended superbly in the last few minutes to hang on and claim a memorable victory- 5-4. In a classic game Park showed great character and deserved the victory and probably a better scoreline to match. After last weeks horror show the players once again showed we are one of the best in the league.

Dale Park 1-2 App Frod-Saints
Dale Park's title hopes are all but over after losing to league leaders App-Frod at Winterton. A last minute pull out by Connor Durnian meant Dale Park were down to 12 players and this had a big effect later on when Nick Wingate, Kris Collins, Kieren Spencer and Jordan Merrill all suffering with injuries. However the day did start well when Nick Wingate gave Park the lead after winning a 50/50 ball with the keeper, but injured himself in the process. We looked fairly tight at the back and Jack Rhodes nearly made it 2-0 just before half time but the keeper made a good save. In the second half though it became all too predictable after Jack Rhodes shot just wide after a superb run through the middle of the defence and Jack Lacey-Hatton nearly making it two nil but shot straight at the keeper with no-one able to turn in the rebound. Then just minutes after Finney made a top save and some more last ditch defending the Saints made the pressure tell after Kieren Mackay nipped in after Finney parried a long range effort. Heads then went down and it was only a matter of time before the winner came. A superb long range effort winning the game. With that went our dying title hopes. Winterton Comp have a game midweek against Fred Gough. We face Bottesford next weekend in a game that could decide who finishes second.

Title Race Update
We are now heading into the season run in with everything still to play for. App-Frod Saints do currently lead the title race on 28 points- six clear of us. However a win against them tomorrow and winning the game in hand we have over them would see us level on the same amount of points. Bottesford are also still in the running they too have to play App-Frod and are currently 4 points behind with a game in hand. To top it all of next week Bottesford face us at Winterton. So it is basically three teams challenging who all still have to play each other. Our destiny is still in our own hands.... just barely. If we do manage to win our remaining four games we will at least take the title to a play off (that is presuming App Frod win there other two games after they play us). If they dropped more points and we won our four games we would be champions. Easier said than done mind.
Below is the top three in the table.

Dale Park V App Frod-Saints
On Sunday Dale Park face an App Frod-Saints side who are currently lead the title race and only have three more games to play. The season comes down to an exciting finish with three teams all in the title race and all three teams still to play each other. However so far our record against the Saints does not make good reading. Last season when in League Two they knocked us out of the divisional cup at Winterton 3-0. We also lost 2-0 earlier in the season at Brumby Hall. As for team news it appears that Ryan Reeder has decided not to carry on playing for us for the rest of the season and so will not play. Artour Johnstone and Connor Durnian are both set to return to the side. Kieren Spencer and Kris Collins both missed training this week due to illness, but both are expected to play some part. Kick off is 1 o'clock at Newport Drive Park.

Crosby Wasps 3-8 Dale Park
Dale Park completed the double over Crosby Wasps after an 8-3 goal fest at Foxhills. The day had not started well with Durnian and Reeder both missing from the squad and with Artour Johnstone suspended we were down to eleven players. Meaning the same team against Gainsborough was retained. The pitch was in poor condition at Foxhills this adding to the wind made for some difficult conditions. However Park always looked the stronger the trio of Collins, Rhodes and Clark all looking lively . With little danger at the other end it was no surprise when Rhodes slotted in the opener after Clark drew the keeper of his line and Rhodes tucked the ball away. It was two-nil not long after when Rhodes again scored the type of goal that made him look like a player right in form after Finney's long ball down field was not cleared. Lacey-Hatton then sent Clark through who was unlucky not to make it three nil, and Wingate too came close to adding the third goal. However that honour went to Kris Collins another player on the top of his game right now who chased onto Wingate's long throw and fired in a superb volley from a tight angle. The only time Crosby really threatened Finneys goal was from set pieces mainly long throw ins but, with us defending soundly the half time whistle went with us 3-0 up. The second half was a much tougher session with Dale Park having to deal with some terrible wind, and a fried up Gunness team. In all fairness though a third clean sheet of the season was harshly took away from us when a shot from the Crosby player deflected off Dawson and squeezed into the corner of the goal past Finney. Our three goal lead was restored when Merrill's long ball found Collins who scored one of the day's best goals when he chipped the keeper after going past the defender. Clark who had another top game then got our fifth goal when he finished coolly past the keeper after good build up play. The sixth goal came Rhodes got his hat-trick after powerfully beating the keeper, and Wingate then made it 7-1 with his first goal of 2011. Crosby did manage to sneak in a couple more goals towards the end of the game the first coming after they broke neatly from midfield to finish past Finney, and they then snuck a third when a corner kick got caught in the wind and flew past everyone at the front post and was so nearly cleared off the line by Spencer, but the goal stood making it 7-3. Park went home on a happy note when Collins got his second hat-trick of the season eventually scoring by firing the ball in from a yard out, after a huge mix up at the back between Crosby Wasps' keeper and defender. The day got even better when news later broke that Brigg Town had beaten league leaders Bottesford 3-1 at the Rec Ground to put us firmly back in the title race. Hopefully with players to return for the four game run-in, (which begins in two weeks after most of the players are back from a ski trip to Italy) we can still take the title back to Winterton; fingers crossed. We know this though with key players bang in form and big games still to come, we do have a chance. Now for the run-in to start.

Dale Park 8-2 Gainsborough Trinity
Dale Park destroyed rivals Gainsborough.T 8-2, in one of the best performances of the season, where four penalties were awarded two to each team making for a controversial game. Reg Spencer changed the team to 4-4-2 for the game, pairing Lewis Clark with Jack Rhodes up front for the first time this season, and also handed Jordan Merrill his first start of 2011. For all the brilliance that followed we could and should have being a goal down inside the first five minutes when Boro striker's miss-hit shot bounced back off the post and with no Boro players reacting, we survived. Park got the lead when Clark found Rhodes who got in behind the defence, before being pulled to the muddy surface by a defender. The referee made no hesitation in awarding the spot kick, up stepped Lewis Clark to convert coolly for his ninth of the season. We doubled our lead not long after with Kris Collins finishing smartly after some superb build up play between Rhodes and Clark down the right channel, Clark laid it to Collins who made it 2-0. The third again involved Collins who blasted his free-kick at the keeper who could on parry into the path of Jack Rhodes who tapped in for his first goal of the new year. Dale Park continued to dominate with Clark nearly getting his second when his volley just evaded the target from inside the box. The only sour note of the opening half came when, after getting in behind the defence, Boro's striker tried to go past the covering Lacey-Hatton and fell to the floor. Despite little contact the referee took a long time before controversially awarding a penalty to Gainsborough after a number of protests. The penalty was smashed in and Dale Park went in at the break 3-1 up. The second half began with Park once again running the show all over the pitch and it wasn't long before the scoring started again. After neat work on the box, Rhodes got his second slotting the ball beyond the keeper with his left foot. We soon started to turn the game into a thrashing not long after when Kris Collins got two goals in quick succession. The first came when some more quality build up play was finished by Collins who slotted the ball past the keeper and in off the post. The next was a classic team goal after the original chance looked to have gone when the cross flew past Clark and Collins, Nick Wingate picked up the ball inside the box and nutmegged a defender before crossing too the back post where Clark cleverly headed across goal for Collins to head home his perfect hat-trick. Gainsborough soon started to become typically aggressive, with Dale Park dominating and lost their heads with some stupid tackling. They did manage to get a second consolation not long after when another debatable penalty was awarded after Dawson was deemed to have fouled in the box. The second penalty was also smartly taken, to make it 6-2. However we were not finished there. Clark got his deserved second when he rounded the keeper after running onto a good through ball. He nearly had his hat-trick when his superb free kick bounced back off the crossbar. The final goal of the day came when Ingham who had another good game, ran past a number of challenges before being knocked over. Rhodes stepped up to score to complete his hat-trick and the final score. This result not only settles an old score but seems to hopefully have re-ignited our title challenge. That said though the wins to need to keep coming from now on, nothing less. We face Crosby Wasps away next week in another must win game. As for today: enjoy it while it lasts.

Dale Park 2-2 Brigg Town
Dale Park just about kept their title hopes alive after a home draw with Brigg Town, in a game where a decent first half performance was overshadowed by a very poor second half. After Brigg threatened early after Blendall shot straight at Finney Dale Park then started to play like we can and took the lead when Kris Collins stunning volley flew into the net. A definite goal of the season contender. We then doubled our lead just before half time through Collins again after good build up from Clark and Durnian, and looked odds on to hold on for the win. Brigg through have a reputation for not lying down and equalized five minutes before half time after a long ball forward was slotted into the net. The second half is almost not worth writing about after a shambolic lack of organization and attacking threat (Park did not force one corner in the whole game) Brigg looked likely to score with nearly every attack but an incredible run of missed chances meant we held onto the lead. In truth Brigg could have being out of sight but by the time they did score it was at the cruelest of moments. Despite defending well throughout most of the game it was a sloppy goal to concede after a poor clearance from Lacey fell to a Brigg winger who cut inside Harvey and curled his shot into the net with the keeper unsighted. The full time whistle went not to long after. Hopefully this will be a much needed wake up call, a bit like the defeat to Crosby Wasps at the same point last year. Winning the league is still possible but Park will need to take nearly maximum points from the next six games to do that. For us this mini-season starts Sunday against Gainsborough. It simply is must win.

Dale Park V Brigg Town
The only team we have yet to play this season come to Winterton on Sunday in the shape of Brigg Town. We have previously had some classic games with the Zebras, who have kept the bulk of their squad together over the years. As for team news Jack Rhodes is thought to have shook off illness that had made him miss training but is still a doubt. Andy Dawson also missed training, but is expected to take his place in the heart of Park's back four. Town are 5th but could move to fourth if they win. We could move level on points with Bottesford providing other results go our way. As for news from last week's game Gainsborough Trinity Football Club are now expected to ban the player sent off from playing for them again, no further news on that at this time. Back to this Sunday kick off time is an early one, quarter past 10 up at Newport Drive.

Also as things stand, the Divisional Cup has being suspended until further notice by the league due to league games taking priority. However we at the blog hope that the divisional cup could be re-arranged, as none of the fixtures re-arranged overlap div cup weekends.

Dale Park 1-3 Gainsborough (Darby Cup-Round 2)
We lost our 100% home record for the season after sliding to a poor cup defeat to an average and typically aggressive Gainsborough Trinity. Trinity took the lead after winning a header in midfield from a goal kick and nipped in behind Park's defence to put the ball beyond Finney and leave us chasing the game. At times it was almost impossible for us to get out of our own half due, once again, to windy conditions. Trinity playing in their yellow and blue kit at times acted as if they did not deserve to be on the same pitch as us due to their constant fouling and diving. They had the chance to make it two after a penalty was controversially given after Lacey-Hatton was ruled to have followed Trinity's striker, but the Boro number eight screwed his kick wide. Rhodes who put in a good shift as a lone striker came close to equalizing after lobbing the keeper only for the ball to agonizingly hit the post and stay out. Coming out a goal down after the break it was expected Dale Park would control the rest of the game and force the play. This simply never happened as Trinity still had the lion share of possession and looked odds on for the win. However a change of ends did not cause them to change their physical tactics. Their number eight, who had earlier been booked, lost his cool early in the half and lunged in two footed on Johnstone another dangerous tackle. The referee(Tim Hunt) who had an excellent game throughout showed a decent level of courage to pull out the red card and reduce Boro to ten men. However this player was simply not going to go quietly and spat and swore at the ref before then attacking our linesman for the day Paul Finney, another timely intervention from the ref and Dale Park players willingness to keep our cool meant the scuffle was prevented from escalating. That sour incident just about summed up our day. Due to a lengthy break tiredness on our part began to tell and Trinity found themselves two up not long after the drama after a corner was not cleared. Park rallied but still created little upfront and Boro killed the game after a mix up at the back left a simple tap in to confirm the victory. We managed to get a late goal through Clark but it was little consolation on what was a bad day for the team. Hopefully the cup will now be seen as history and we can put a good run together to keep our title hopes alive. However serious training and better fitness levels are needed if this Club is going to win the championship this year. One final word again to Mr Tim Hunt who had a very good game and made this game slightly less sour than the last time we faced this lot. His decision to send off number eight in particular a very good call. Next week we face Brigg Town, although it is unannounced if the game is at home or away.
