Brigg Town 4-5 Dale Park
Not many games will be as memorable as this nine goal classic, in the history of Dale Park. We somehow won a crazy, but amazing, game after Ryan Inghams late scrambled winner. For the first ten minutes Park were still playing as they were last week, with a lack of commitment or quality and it was only after Brigg scored the first goal that we really got going. The opening goal was one of the days many controversial points after Collins who was wearing a protective knee brace was clattered over in midfield many players expected a free kick to be awarded. However Brigg played on and trickled a shot past Finney and in off the post. We then started the comeback by doing what we did so well all day: being a threat from set pieces. Lewis Clark's excellent free kick was nodded in by strike partner Jack Rhodes. The game then turned a little heated with Park outplaying Brigg all over the field but the referee slowing the game down, Andy Dawson knocked the ball away before a Brigg free kick although the ball was still near to where it should of been, the referee took a hard line and booked Dawson for unsporting behaviour. Dawson though knew himself how to get his own back scoring one of the goals of the season, when his volley flew above the keeper and into the roof of the net, from about 30 yards. Now confidence was flowing and birthday boy Lewis Clark was brought down by the Brigg keeper, and a penalty was awarded much to the dismay of Brigg. Despite hitting a decent penalty Clark could not find the net and the score remained 2-1. If they thought that penalty was harsh Brigg were about to get lucky themselves when a cross-shot bounced off the top of Lacey-Hattons arm and the referee again took a strong and harsh line, awarding the hosts a penalty. They scored and the teams went in level at the break. After the break Brigg got into the lead after stealing the ball on the halfway line and running on before firing the ball past Finney. The lead was doubled when after a free kick found its way to the back post and with no offside given Brigg rammed the ball into the net. Cue an inspirational fightback started by Kris Collins scoring a fantastic goal which flew into the top corner. Playing with confidence we nearly equalized after a goalmouth scramble with Ingham eventually shooting wide. Our fourth goal came after a flowing team move the ball was released to Clark inside the box who passed it beyond the keeper leaving Matty Harvey to fire the ball past the on-line defender to make it 4-4. Then came a huge turning point with Brigg pushing on the counter attack Harvey cleared but the ball hit Lacey Hatton on the back of the shoulder. After a pause the referee awarded a almost farcical penalty. Ash Finney proved why he is one of the best keepers in the league by diving to his right to keep Park in the game. minutes later Brigg went through but hit the post before Dawson blocked the re-bound. With time running out Park surged forward in desperate search of a winner and it came from one of Nick Wingates trademark throw-ins. His long throw was flicked on by Lacey-Hatton to Ingham who with his back to goal amazingly flicked the ball back over the keeper and just over the line. The linesman awarded the goal and somehow we were back in front. Park defended superbly in the last few minutes to hang on and claim a memorable victory- 5-4. In a classic game Park showed great character and deserved the victory and probably a better scoreline to match. After last weeks horror show the players once again showed we are one of the best in the league.
