We started our season in the best possible way on Sunday by destroying bitter rivals Messingham by four goals to one. Park started at an extremely high tempo and Nick Wingate scored our first goal of the new season with the game barely 15 minutes old. Park dominated much of the rest of the half Jack Rhodes and Lewis Clark both going close after Lacey-Hattons flick on from Wingates throw in. Despite being in control Messingham did manage to equalize after Jake Crosslands long range effort deflected in off the post. Nick Wingate and Jack Rhodes went close not long after but Park went in level at half time. The tempo stayed high in the second half with Finney doing well from Messinghams set pieces. For a while the game looked like it was going away from Dale Park but then Jack Rhodes came alive to score a blistering hat trick in 15 minutes. Rhodes first scored after lobbing the Messingham goalkeeper from just outside the area. 5 minutes later Rhodes had his second after great play from Lewis Clark and Dale Park looked like they were heading for only a third away win this season. He then completed the hat-trick with a smart finish after turning the defender and firing home to seal the points. We had to ride out a bullish assault during the closing minutes at which time the ref looked like he may lose control of the game, with Ryan Reeder in particular targeted by some of the Messingham players. We had the last laugh though and Clark nearly made it 5 in the final minute producing a great save from the Messingham keeper. A great start to what looks likely to be an entertaining season. New signing Andy Dawson was awarded the club man of the match after a solid display during a tough debut.
